About Mckenzie James

Mckenzie James founded her consulting practice in 2020 after a brief—and unsuccessful—attempt at retirement. With a natural “get-it-done” mindset, she thrives on tackling complex challenges and delivering practical solutions.
Mckenzie recognized that many small and mid-sized nonprofits cannot afford to retain senior-level financial leadership full-time, yet still need experienced guidance. Her consulting model fills that gap, offering high-level expertise on an hourly or project basis.
Since 2020, she has helped numerous organizations navigate financial and operational transitions and stands ready to help your nonprofit not just survive, but thrive.
After many years in Oregon—where it can rain up to 151 days a year—Mckenzie relocated to Albuquerque to enjoy the sunshine and a new chapter
Professional Experience
Mckenzie brings more than 30 years of financial leadership experience, serving as Finance Director for a range of national and local nonprofit organizations, including:
- Council on Library and Information Resources (Washington, DC) — 9 years
- United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (New York and Hong Kong) — 2 years
- Head Start of Lane County (Oregon) — 7 years
- Eugene Symphony Association (Oregon) — 3 years
Across these roles, she managed operating budgets exceeding $20 million and oversaw investments totaling more than $120 million.
